Pattaya History

Pattaya was originally a small, fishing village until the 1960s, when US servicemen spent their R&R there during the Vietnam war. While Pattaya has a bit of a reputation preceding it, the Thailand authorities and business community are trying to make it more family-friendly. This includes the newly opened Nong Nooch Paradise Garden & Resort, golf courses, and many newly-opened upscale hotels.

Pattaya is approximately 2 hours drive away from Thailand's capital city, Bangkok. It is approximately a 30 minutes drive from Laem Chabang, where most US Navy ships moor.

Car & Van Service

One of Navy League Siam's longstanding members & supporters is offering a Van Service to the sailors of visiting ships. The van is a new 6-9 seater with a driver who speaks English and knows the Pattaya area and surroundings very well. Also available is a Toyota Camry to seat 3-4 pax comfortably. The services are reasonably priced. Please contact them to make your arrangements.

Thai Cooking Class

The Navy League Siam Director, Mr. Peter Thorand, can arrange Cooking Class in Thai Food at 5-star Marriott Resort & Spa in Pattaya. Anyone can join to a (maximum of 8 persons). This can happen at 10:00 or at 14:00 everyday during a ship's visit. There is a meal at the end of the Cooking Class for all participants.
